Dear Parents and Community Members:

We are pleased to present you with the Annual Education Report (AER) which provides key information on the 2015-2016 educational progress for Woodbridge Elementary School.  The AER addresses the complex reporting information required by federal and state laws. The school’s report contains information about student assessment, accountability, and teacher quality. If you have any questions about the AER, please contact Michael Dalman, Woodbridge Principal, for assistance.

The AER is available for you to review electronically, or you may review a copy in the main office at your child’s school.

Increasing academic achievement among all students and the specific subgroups in our building continues to be our challenge as a building.  During the past year we have continued several initiatives to increase the performance of our students using the Phonics First Program in grades K-2 and and ReadyGen Reading in all grades.  Our professional development will focus on our literacy initiatives.  We continue to address the needs of all students, whether below, at, or above grade level through a response to intervention program we call WIN (What I Need).  All students will be provided an intervention period of reading and/or math that will help them to be successful on Common Core State Standards.  Woodbridge staff is part of two large initiatives, Whole Child and Reading Now Lab School, with the purpose of increasing achievement in our building.

PROCESS FOR ASSIGNING PUPILS TO THE SCHOOL – Students in Zeeland are assigned based upon their geographical home location.  After all students are placed based upon this “neighborhood school” concept, school of choice students are placed based upon available spots.

THE STATUS OF THE 3-5 YEAR SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT PLAN – Woodbridge Elementary continues to work on our school improvement plan to help our students achieve the necessary skills for success in reading, writing, math, science and social studies.  This plan is available for review on our building web sites.

 

THE CORE CURRICULUM for our school is based upon the State of Michigan Standards and National Common Core Standards.  This information is available at our school office or on our district web site.  Zeeland Public Schools makes sure our students are provided challenging lessons that are consistent across grade levels.  A team of Zeeland educators regularly evaluates and revises our curriculum to ensure that classroom lessons meet state requirements for kindergarten through twelfth grade.

­­­­­99 percent of Woodbridge Elementary students were represented by parents at our parent-teacher conferences. Our building had over 788 volunteers during the 2015-2016 school year for a total of 7,479.97 hours.

Woodbridge Elementary School is proud of our students’ achievement and the quality instruction each student receives in their classroom.  As our mission states, “The Woodbridge community is committed to educating children for a lifetime of learning while preparing them to be responsible citizens.”  Woodbridge staff, along with the parents of our students, will continue this mission during the 2016-2017 school year!
